Own the CBAP: Elevating My BA Career

An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest" - Benjamin Franklin

In order to stay relevant in today's job market, one has to upskill themselves with professional certifications that are recognized all around the world. One of such certifications is a senior-level certification for experienced business analysts awarded by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) called "Certified Business Analysis Professional" (CBAP).

It demonstrates expertise in business analysis, verified through work experience and a passing exam based on the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) Guide. The certification can lead to better job prospects, higher salaries, and increased professional standing.

Well that is the formal introduction of the certification. I want to give my experience on how I plan on taking it. After reading numerous blogs and articles, I found that you need to study the entire BABOK guide at least once before you attempt the exam. Trust me I tried giving the exam twice without fully reading the BABOK and didn't pass the exam. Both times, fell short in one of the areas needed to pass it.

For my third attempt, I aim to finish the BABOK once and also try some practice tests online to see how well I remember all of it. The issue with me is that I can't cram stuff. I am more of a hands-on practical learning type of a person and so these sort of exams that test your knowledge of a book has always been a pain for me. Working full time and looking after a young family, I find it very difficult to find quiet time so I can read the BABOK and try to retain it. But if I want to stay relevant in the job market, this is a must. With all the advancements in Artificial Intelligences (AI) jobs all over the world are being affected. So upskilling has become survival rather than a nice to have.

Hopefully when I post my next blog, I would have passed the exam and officially be a CBAP eager to share my thoughts and experiences with anyone who reads my blogs. Till then please stay safe and stay blessed! Going to leave a short blog this time.
