Generalization i.e deducement

“I often wonder why the whole world is so prone to generalise. Generalisations are seldom if ever true and are usually utterly inaccurate.”- Agatha Christie, Murder at the Vicarage

I had decided to be regular in my writing, but life happens and it's been months since my last post. I was struggling to think of what to write about as currently my mind is all over the place but then it hit me how we humans have this annoying habit of generalizing others and even things. I am guilty of doing this myself but despite not liking it, I have done it one too many times.

Some examples of generalisations that I can think of at the moment are:
  • Cats are meaner than dogs.
  • All IT people are hackers.
  • Geeks/Nerds are not good at sports.
  • Everyone is a cynic these days.
  • People who smile the most are the happiest people,   etc.

In my opinion (not that it matters, nor anyone asked), some generalisation may have some truth in them, one should not use them as truth or base them as their arguments. We should all be respectful towards each other and try never to judge anyone. I don’t think anyone in this day and age is sinless so what makes us think we are above anyone else.

I have decided I am going to work on myself and eliminate this habit of mine  - my White Dragon Lady has this amazing ability to put herself in the other persons' shoes before saying or replying to anything. I have found this to be an amazing trait which very few people have a command over. Quite often we find ourselves saying things we regret after saying them; and in doing this we often generalise people (it can be positive or negative). She has this ability of catching herself before saying something she knows might hurt the other person - this is an ability I lack and I have decided to work on adopting it.

Stay safe and stay blessed everyone - I will try to be regular in my posts.

“The curious thing about individuals is that their singularity always goes beyond any category or generalization in the book.” - Haruki Murakami, The Elephant Vanishes
