Falling down.. Get back up and never give up

Most of the people in this world go through a rough patch in their life once (or some like me more than once). It is these times that make or break one's character. I have had my fair share of these rough patches (one can say I am still going through one at this very moment). There will be many times where you just want to give up and go live in a hole till the storm passes but speaking from experience, it is best to face everything face-to-face. There will only be one outcome, i.e. either you will be stronger or know what not to do.

"When life knocks you down, try to land on your back. Because if you can look up, you can get up. Let your reason get you back up." - Les Brown

When disappointment or rejection knocks you down, get up and go again, because out of our greatest rejection comes our greatest direction. If you read the life story of Oprah Winfrey or Steve Jobs, you will find out that neither of them had an easy-going life. Oprah Winfrey came from a poor family and now she is one of the richest women in the world. Steve Jobs is the father of smartphones... I don't think he needs any introduction.

From my own experience, I have deduced that these tough times shape us in ways we only understand afterwards... It brings us closer to things we love and cherish the most like God, family, friends etc. When you feel like giving up, give it one last push... you never know where this push might take you. Very often, we do all the hard work and when we don't see the desired results, we turn around and walk away - even though we may have been just one step away from success.

Below are few tips I would like you to follow if you ever are facing a rough time:

  • Don't be afraid to ask for help, people will surprise you in ways you wouldn't have thought possible.
  • Don't doubt/underestimate your abilities. Self-doubt never got anyone anywhere.
  • Remember this is only a temporary phase - there is always sunshine after rain!
  • Distance yourself from all the negatives in your life... negative habits, negative/degrading people and try to surround yourself with positivity, self-trust and people that make you stronger.
  • Don't let your fears overpower your willpower.
  • Being patient is the key!
  • Aim for baby steps... you can't change the world in a day.
  • Re-focus and gather your thoughts after every failure.
Edison invented the filament light bulb, an invention that changed the world. By the time he died, the 'man-who-failed-500-times' had 1024 patents to his credit and had founded the iconic General Electric company. But Edison's real contribution to humankind went beyond all this. He showed us the power of perseverance, the virtue of learning from your failures, and the magic of never giving up.

"If you want to succeed, double your rate of failure." - Thomas J Watson (founder-chairman of IBM)

To succeed, one must learn to embrace failure, and not be scared by it. Failure holds valuable lessons for us - if only we are willing to learn. Don't dwell on your failures. Don't play the blame game. Don't doubt your ability. Learn from your mistakes. Re-focus on your goals. And keep going. I shall end with a funny image below... Peace out!
